About This Module

Track focused work sessions and keep clean daily logs with Time Tracker. Start and stop a timer for each task, review your session history in a structured table, and export everything as a CSV file.

What Is Time Tracker?

Time Tracker is a free, browser-based tool for logging how long you spend on individual tasks throughout the day. It requires no installation, no account, and no setup. Simply describe what you are working on, hit Start, and the timer begins counting. When you finish, click Stop and the session is recorded with its task name, start time, end time, and duration. A running summary shows your current session length, total time logged today, and the number of entries. All data stays in your browser and can be exported to CSV.

How It Works

Type a short description of your task in the input field and click Start. The timer begins immediately and the status indicator switches to active. When you complete the task or need a break, click Stop. The session is automatically added to the log table below with full timestamps and calculated duration. Repeat the process for each new task. At the end of the day, click Export CSV to download a clean spreadsheet of all your sessions. Use the Clear Logs button to reset the table when starting fresh.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the Time Tracker save my sessions if I close the browser?

Session logs are stored in the browser's localStorage and persist between page loads on the same browser and device. If you close the tab and reopen the tool, your log history should still be visible. However, if you clear your browser's site data, use an incognito or private window, or switch to a different browser, the session history will not be available. The currently running timer does not survive a page close or refresh — if you close the tab while a timer is running, that in-progress session will be lost. To preserve your records permanently, use the Export CSV button at the end of each day to save a local copy of all logged sessions.

Can I edit or delete individual session log entries?

The time tracker logs sessions as they are recorded and does not provide an inline editing interface for individual entries in the current version. If you need to correct a session record — for example, if you forgot to stop the timer and the duration is too long — export the CSV file and edit the relevant row in a spreadsheet application like Excel or Google Sheets, then save the corrected file for your records. The Clear Logs button removes all session entries at once, which is useful for starting fresh at the beginning of a new day or project. For precise billing adjustments, treat the CSV export as the source of truth and edit it externally.

Is my time tracking data private and stored securely?

Yes. All session data — task names, start times, end times, and durations — is stored exclusively in your browser's localStorage on your local device. No data is transmitted to Popupnote.com's servers or to any third party. The tool operates entirely client-side using JavaScript, with no backend database or user account system. Your task descriptions and work session records remain completely private and are only accessible from the browser instance where they were recorded. Exporting to CSV downloads the data directly to your device without any server involvement.
