Background Remover is a free, browser-based color-key tool that makes solid-color backgrounds transparent. It uses pixel-level color matching rather than artificial intelligence, making it ideal for images with uniform backgrounds such as white, green screen, or single-tone studio shots. All processing runs in your browser, so your images are never uploaded to a server.
Background Remover applies a color-key (chroma-key) technique to replace pixels of a selected color with transparency. Upload an image, click on the background area to sample its color, and adjust a tolerance slider to control how closely pixels must match before being removed. The result is a transparent PNG ready for layering onto other designs, presentations, or web pages. Because this tool operates on raw pixel data in the HTML Canvas, it works best on images with solid, consistent backgrounds and clean edges.
Upload an image by dragging it into the drop zone or clicking to browse. The image appears on a canvas with a checkerboard background indicating transparent areas. Click anywhere on the image to sample a color -- the swatch updates to show the selected hue. Move the tolerance slider to widen or narrow the range of similar colors that will be removed. Click Remove Background to process every pixel: those within the tolerance of the sampled color become fully transparent. Review the result and download the transparent PNG. Use Reset to restore the original image and try different settings.
