What Is the Pomodoro Timer?

The Pomodoro Timer is a time management tool based on the Pomodoro Technique, a productivity method developed by Francesco Cirillo in the late 1980s. The technique breaks work into focused intervals — traditionally 25 minutes — separated by short breaks of 5 minutes. After completing a set number of work sessions (typically four), a longer break of 15 minutes recharges your focus before the next cycle. Research shows that working in focused bursts with regular breaks reduces mental fatigue, improves concentration, and helps maintain sustained productivity throughout the day. This digital timer automates the entire cycle, switching between work and break phases with clear visual cues and an audio alert so you never have to watch the clock.

How It Works

Configure your preferred durations in the settings panel: work time, short break time, long break time, and the number of work sessions before a long break. Click "Start" to begin the countdown. The display shows the remaining time in large digits, and the card border changes color — red for work phases, green for break phases. When a phase ends, an audio beep alerts you and the timer automatically advances to the next phase. Session dots at the top track your progress through the cycle. Use "Pause" to temporarily stop the timer or "Reset" to return to the beginning of the current phase and start fresh.
